The Versailles of Belgium

Fulfilling the wishes of Prince de Ligne, proud inhabitant of this beautiful castle, TBH, assisted with many various project to help restore lost glory in various rooms and outdoor in the garden. One project was  to recover 14-piece set of French  furniture with period silk brocade fabric. (photo right). Such landmarks require mammoth financial and labor support to keep in perfect order. Preservation groups offer much needed assistance, influenced by the urgency and importance the preservation needed, meeting on a weekly basis for approximately one year.  Other projects such as polishing and waxing a very special collection of antique leather-bound books in the impressive castle library--some one-of-a-kind and seldom hand held.

Shown in the photos, right: TBH working on one of the many preservation projects where lost glory was revived in the form of new upholstery for a  14 piece set of salon furniture; including an unusual French  quadruple-seat sofa. The furniture was in threadbare state before the period silk brocade  was replaced  The salon can be seen during the Amaryllis Festival annually open to the public.

TBH drew an oversized graphite drawing of one of the many beautiful homes in the city of Concord, North Carolina on the tree lined North Union Street, center city. Many of the home are on The National Historic Register.  From the original drawing a limited edition was produced. With the sale of each work a percentage was contributed to the preserve the school.  The home has since returned to residence and remains property of a prominent textile family.  When it was an academy it was usual for parents to  gift the artwork to children attending the school as a graduation or other academic related keepsake. The original can be seen in the permanent collection of DnD in Waterloo, Belgium.

Winter                                                       Spring

Currently employed as an administrative offices for a school, this beautiful building lies nestled on a forested hilltop. A survivor of previous wars,  during which it was once used to house orphaned children. Proceeds of the sales of giclees are donated to charitable causes.  Nowadays the front lawn has become a parking lot, which is replaced here with play garden for children, hinting at it past and present use. The winter scene on the left was also used as fundraiser in the form of  limited edition holiday card
